Upperclassmen, professional students, graduate students, and other mentors will be available to answer questions, icebreakers, fun activities, networking, food provided (see menu below) BANQUET & AWARDS CEREMONY - April 19th, 7pm-8:30pm All are welcomed to attend (even if you have never been before). Pot luck Dinner will be served and awards will be given for anyone in ACES who has contributed to our success during the 2009-2010 school year. There will be live performances... SESSION I WORKSHOPS: 9:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. B) THE 5 PRACTICES OF LEADERSHIP What's Your Style? - Presented by Lead 101 Assess your skills regarding the 5 exemplary practices of exceptional leadership. Interactive and Informative. A must for anyone who wants to be a strong & effective leader. C) PROGRAM YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS - Coach Black The first portion focuses on the barriers to you achieving success and helps you learn how to get out of you own way. There will be a brief self -assessment. The second portion will include goal setting and steps to take to attract success to you. Information from experts in the field will be discussed. We will start making steps towards your success immediately! SESSION II WORKSHOPS: 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A) GRADUATE STUDENT & PROFESSIONAL STUDENT PANEL - Kelly Anguish Facilitator Graduate and Professional students (Liberal Arts, Sociology, Dental, Pharmacy, etc.) share their experiences on getting into and surviving their respective programs. An informal question and answer forum. The panel is invited to join us for lunch as well. B) ENTREPRENEURIAL MIND - Show me the money - Coach Black Professional Entrepreneurship graduate discusses money attitudes, the basics of credit, how to think like an entrepreneur, starting up a small business, and the language of success. Self-assessment, practice activities, and sample business plans included. Can you handle the shark tank! No prior knowledge needed. C) EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION (THIS SESSION IS FULL - PLEASE SELECT ANOTHER CHOICE - Space may open the day of the conference please ask at the registration table) - Calia Torres Do you ever get distracted or bored while talking to others? Ever wonder if you should or should'nt say something? Do you want to have better communication with loved ones and peers? Have you ever wondered why people react the way that they do? If you answered yes to any of these then this workshop is for you... Several fun communication activities will be performed. Find out how to improve your communication skills, understand others, and be understood by others. Time permitting: relationships, dating, how to translate what the other gender is saying and have it make sense, and how to instantly connect with anyone. D) THE ART OF NEGOTIATION & CONFLICT RESOLUTION - Dennis Sisson & SOBLE SADIQ (This session is closed - we will have this workshop next week - please inquire at the registration table or email entrepreneur@ufl.edu) LUNCH (see menu below) & entertainment SESSION III WORKSHOPS: 1:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. A) Perfect Interview Skills - Katya Tsorova B) ADVANCED STUDY TECHNIQUES OF EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS - Coach Black Do you dread or put off studying? Do you ever finish reading and can't remember what you read? Then this workshop is for you. Boost your confidence & decrease test anxiety. Find out how the top students study. Learn how to study less and get better grades. Increase comprehension, focus, speed, and retention. C) Powerful Public Speaking - Mike Workshop includes tips on creating demand, writing enticing titles and the entire speach, breaking the ice, connecting with your audience, performance anxiety, incorporating audiovisual aides and PowerPoint. There will be a brief freewriting exercise and participants may volunteer to practice in front of the group - but this is not a requirement. BREAKFAST MENU: Coffee, O.J., bagels and cream cheese, fruit platter with yogurt, coffee cake, muffins, and pasteries. LUNCH MENU: Pollo classical chicken, yellow rice with veggies, black beans with rice, fruit platter with yogurt dip, veggie platter with dip, plantains, yucca bites, ceasar salad, macaroni and cheese, savory snacks, pretzels, dip and crackers, tortilla chips, sweet tea, lemonade, fruit punch, and cake. REGISTER HERE: Gators Gathering Giving Thanks - Monday 11/23 from 7-9pm Come eat and socialize with other mentoring organizations, have fun, eat, and come together with ideas for future projects. There will be optional stations for making cards for terminally ill children - sponsored by Friends for Life, other fun booths, and live entertainment. Some of our members will be in costume - suggested but certainly optional. This is a potluck meal - If you are partaking you need to bring a dish or something for around 10 servings.
