THE 3rd ANNUAL A.C.E.S. LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Saturday, February 20th on the third and fourth floor of the Reitz Union. Check in, breakfast, entertainment, and lunch will be in the Arrodondo Cafe. This Conference is free and opened to all and includes: free breakfast, snacks, catered lunch, workshops, materials, prizes, and live entertainment. Participants may choose from a list of topic interests such as: Perfect Interview Skills, Grad and Professional student panel, Networking 101, Entrepreneurship - Show me the money!, Advanced Study Skills, & more. It will change your life!
A)NETWORKING 101 - Calia Torres (THIS SESSION IS FULL - PLEASE SELECT ANOTHER CHOICE - Space may open the day of the conference please ask at the registration table) Body language, the perfect handshake, entering a room, working a room, and the basics of effective networking will be discussed. Interactive activities to practice included.
Monday 4/13, 7:00-9:30pm PEER MENTORING FAIR & SOCIAL Though this event is gearded towards pre-professional and engineering students - all UF students are welcomed to attend. Upperclassmen, professional students and other mentors will be available to answer questions, icebreakers, fun activities, networking, food provided (see menu below), and live entertainment with performers such as breakdancers, Rize, and guest performers and more...
AWARDS CEREMONY - April 13th, 6:30-7pm All are welcomed to attend. Food will be served and awards will be given for anyone in ACES who has contributed to our success during the 2008-2009 school year.
THE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Dear Conference Participant,
A.C.E.S. Mentoring Society thanks you for your interest in the 2nd Annual Leadership Conference. This year's conference will be held on February 21st on the 2nd floor of the J. Wayne Reitz Union on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.
Check-in for TLC begins at 9:00 AM at the registration table outside of room 283, where we will distribute program folders. After registering, please enjoy a complimentary breakfast (see menu below). At 9:30 we will begin the Welcome & Networking session. Please arrive by 9:30 AM to ensure that everyone begins on time. Your peers will be wearing business casual attire (i.e. preferably no jeans, shorts, or T-shirts with slogans). After the opening session there will be (3) one-hour sessions of your choice. At 12:30 PM, participants will enjoy a complimentary lunch (see menu below) while being entertained by live dancers. After the 3rd session, the conference will conclude with a ½ hour closing ceremony and prizes (such as “greatest networker” as well as random drawings) will be awarded. The conference will end at 3:30 PM.
All UF students, spouses and affiliates may attend TLC for free. TLC registration includes meals and materials. There is limited seating for most of the sessions. Participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please make sure to register as soon as possible. It is possible to register in person the morning of the conference, however, the availability of sessions will be limited.
Please note: only registered participants may attend the sessions and participants must attend the sessions to receive a voucher for the two meals and prizes. You may register for part of the conference if you are unable to attend the entire event by selecting the session(s) that you are able to attend; however, partial registration does not include certain prizes or full meals.

SESSION I WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS: 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
A) Effective Communication - Dr. Soo Young Chong (THIS SESSION IS FULL - space may open the day of the conference - please ask at the registration table - thank you for your interest ) Do you ever get distracted or bored while talking to others? Ever wonder if you should or should'nt say something? Do you want to have better communication with loved ones and peers? Have you ever wondered why people react the way that they do? If you answered yes to any of these then this workshop is for you...
B) Becoming a Powerful Public Speaker - Coach Black Workshop includes tips on creating demand, writing enticing titles and the entire speach, breaking the ice, connecting with your audience, performance anxiety, incorporating audiovisual aides and PowerPoint. There will be a brief freewriting exercise and participants may volunteer to practice in front of the group - but this is not a requirement.
C) Perfect Interview Skills - Katya Tsorova (THIS SESSION IS FULL - space may open the day of the conference - please ask at the registration table - thank you for your interest ) Learn how to make your interview successful with invaluable tips on - making a good first impression - managing your verbal and nonverbal responses - understanding what information about yourself the interview is meant to identify - preparing for the interview ...and participate in fun interactive activities!
) Mentoring Experience - Michael Jong Work with seasoned mentors to understand how to mentor middle & high school children. Learn how to talk to a child and how to say just the right thing at the right time. Focus on Literacy.
SESSION II WORKSHOPS: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
A) Programming Yourself for Success - Coach Black The first portion focuses on the barriers to you achieving success and helps you learn how to get out of you own way. There will be a brief self -assessment. The second portion will include goal setting and steps to take to attract success to you. Information from experts in the field will be discussed.
B) Mentoring Experience - Michael Jong Work with seasoned mentors to learn how to teach children and make a difference today in the future. Focuses on FCAT score improvement.
C) Stress Without Distress- Amelia Kumar Some stress can be helpful. But when it is too much or over a long period of time it can be devastating to relationships, health, and all aspects of your life. Learn what is okay and what is harmful. Learn techniques to de-stress in minutes.
D) Lion's Club Obstacle Experience - Shelly Anne
SESSION III WORKSHOPS: 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.
A) Peace Corps Virtual Experience - Amy Panakowski A Peace Corp volunteer shares their adventures and answer questions

C) READING ACCELERATOR PLUS ADVANCED STUDY TECHNIQUES Do you dread or put off studying? Do you ever finish reading and can't remember what you read? Then this workshop is for you. D) Effective Time Management & Organization - Phuong Includes goal setting, creating a plan, brief self-assessment, how do you spend your time?, and overcoming procrastination. Great tips on how to become more effective with your time.
